John Charles Fremont and Kit Carson were among the first to open up trails to and in the western frontier, paving the way for the legions of settlers from the crowded East, going West to find their fortune—or themselves. The Pathfinder: John Fremont, by best-selling author Jackson Lowry, is something of a trailblazer as well. The inaugural issue of DS Productions’ America250 series, celebrating the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, highlights and celebrates the contributions of Western heroes to the building of this nation.

With a blend of masterful narrative and sublime grace, Lowry pulls the reader into a riveting adventure as they open the frontier for the pioneers who follow. He knows how to make history come alive in a story that you won’t be able to put down until you reach the final page, and when you do, you’ll be panting for more.

Lowry has set the bar high for the rest of the authors writing stories for this series and has established himself as an author readers will want more of. I received a complimentary review copy of this book, and I can assure you that you don’t have to be a fan of the Western genre to like it. It’s a must for historical fiction aficionados, and I’ll wager that everyone who reads it will be enticed to try another.

I give Lowry five stars for a masterful tale well told.

John Charles Fremont and Kit Carson were among the first to open up trails to and in the western frontier, paving the way for the legions of settlers from the crowded East, going West to find their fortune—or themselves.
