Charles Ray, one of the biggest names in the Western genre, is on top form with the release of Texas Ranger J.D. Pettit: Bad Time In Beeville—now available on Amazon as a Kindle e-book from Dusty Saddle Publishing!

This action-packed, full-throttle adventure keeps readers flipping pages from start to finish. Texas Ranger J.D. Pettit is sent from Garland, Texas, to Carthage to assist the town marshal after he and his deputy are seriously injured by a man they were trying to arrest for killing two men after an argument over a card game. The murderer, Buck Slater, has fled south, and J.D. goes in pursuit, thinking he’s heading for the Mexican border. Instead, Slater stops in Beeville, a small town in South Texas, for unknown reasons.

In Beeville, J.D. meets Eustis Tucker, a young lawyer in town, and the two men hit it off. Their relationship becomes closer when J.D. learns that Eustis is handling a legal case involving a man who has an indirect relationship to the man he’s after. The man in Eustis’s case is, in many ways, even more dangerous than the killer, and J.D. and Eustis must join forces and use all their skill and wits in order to succeed in carrying out their sworn duties.

Ray’s signature style shines: authentic Texas frontier detail, high-stakes pursuit, moral complexity, and the kind of relentless pacing that makes every chapter feel urgent. With several more releases scheduled for March 2026, Charles Ray is delivering one of his busiest and most exciting years yet—proving once again why he’s a top Western hitmaker.

Nick Wale’s promotional machine is in full gear, and DSP’s commitment to human-crafted, soulful Westerns continues to resonate. Bad Time In Beeville is live and ready—don’t miss your chance to ride with J.D. Pettit while the series is still heating up.
